I guess another way of tackling this subject is to wonder whether babies and toddlers also contend with the notion of purpose and meaning.
I have a toddler in the house, and I seriously doubt that she is grappling with existential problems. Therefore it seems that the notion of purpose and meaning is something that grows into our consciousness as we grow older.
The question is, why do we develop this sense of wanting to find meaning. And what is it that we are looking for anyway? Surely, if we do not know what we are looking for we will have a tough time finding it.
Therefore, to begin with, let us explore the notion of meaning and purpose.
